Grand Hotel Birmingham

An iconic venue in the heart of the city, The Grand Hotel had fallen into ruin, lying dark for almost 20 years. During the course of a multi-million pound refurbishment, we were appointed to create a brand that was fit for a grand dame returning to centre stage. A modern wordmark is paired with a custom monogram that pays homage to the architectural details of the hotel, as well as to the city of Birmingham itself, through the use of an anchor; the silversmith mark for the city. Graphic assets based on reoccurring features within the hotel, a cool, minimal colour palette punctuated by gold and baby blue add a sense of luxury. All complemented by an understated tone of voice and light use of illustration.
